Seven tips to reduce acne

Acne isn’t fun for anyone. It seems to appear at the worst possible times and then never want to go away. Trying to figure out how to get rid of the blemishes can add to the frustration. So, we thought we’d put together some tips on how to get on top of your acne.

Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables

Fruits and veges contain many skin‑loving minerals and vitamins. These include potassium, vitamins A and C, and folate, all of which are great for your skin and can help to prevent breakouts. If you want to make your skin glow, make sure that you get a wide array of fruits and veges in your diet.

Drink water

One of the best things you can do for your skin (and body) is to drink water. It keeps the skin cells hydrated, improving the complexion and reducing the appearance of acne.

Drinking at least 8 glasses per day also helps to flush toxins from the body, via the kidneys. If you regularly consume caffeine and alcohol, your kidneys may have difficulty clearing the entire toxic load, and any harmful substances that linger can affect skin health. To keep your kidneys and body functioning well, aim to drink one cup of water to each cup of coffee or glass of alcohol in addition to your 8+ a day.

Wash your face in the morning and at night with a gentle cleanser

This helps to remove any harmful bacteria that may be trapped on your skin, which is especially important if you regularly wear makeup. Prolonged periods of wearing makeup can also clog your pores, so never go to bed without removing your makeup first! Doing so can lead to damaged and dull skin and breakouts of acne.

Don’t squeeze or pick at your spots

Although it may be tempting to pop that pimple, it's best to just leave it be. Picking or squeezing blemishes only makes them look worse, and can lead to serious damage such as scarring.

Frequently clean anything that comes into contact with your skin

This includes:

  • Pillowcases
  • Towels
  • Mobile phones
  • Glasses
  • Makeup brushes
  • Your hands!

Bacteria that is harmful to the skin can linger on these items and cause breakouts. Make sure to keep clean any items that regularly touch your skin to ensure that they are free from bacteria.

Try cutting out added sugars from your diet

You can still eat fruits and other natural foods that contain sugar as they also have fibre and other great healthy stuff as well. However, eating processed sugars can lead to skin irritation and acne so try to keep your intake at a minimum. (Some people also have success with cutting dairy from their diet too.)

Take Encorē

His and her Encorē contain the following ingredients that fight acne:

  • Collagen: One of the amino acids in collagen, glycine, helps to reduce the inflammation that causes acne. Plus, if your skin is damaged by acne, the extra collagen stores help with healing your skin, faster.
  • Zinc: Like collagen, zinc also acts as an anti-inflammatory. The body also uses zinc for skin repair and regeneration.
  • Magnesium: This essential mineral regulates the effects of cortisol (the ‘stress’ hormone) in the body, helping to keep acne flare-ups at bay during stressful times, such as exams! Magnesium is also another natural

    anti‑inflammatory.
